Kam Tin Ten Years Ta Chiu 2025
Three hundred years ago, the residents of Kam Tin in the twenty-third year of Kangxi reign of Qing dynasty (1684) got help from the Viceroy of Guangdong and Guangxi, Zhou You-de, and the Governor of Guangdong, Wang Lai-ren, who contributed immensely to the lifting of the Coastal Evacuation Edict in the early Qing dynasty. To commemorate them, Kam Tin residents built the Chow Wong Yi Kung Study Hall, Once every decade during the Jiao Festival, memorial services and Cantonese opera were held in the space outside the study hall to release from purgatory the souls of those who had died in the coastal evacuation, and to seek blessings for local residents.
Last Saturday, teachers and students of Mung Yeung were invited by the Kam Tin Rural Committee to participate in the opening ceremony of the ‘Gratitude Ritual’. Distinguished guests gathered that day, united in wishing for national prosperity, social harmony, and favourable weather!
On Monday, we all went to the bamboo scaffolding temple pavilion to experience the allure of this intangible cultural heritage, recognised by the Guinness World Records. Additionally, students and teachers visited the Bin Mo Bridge and Kam Tin Tree House, experiencing the blessings planted by the Tang ancestors for future generations of Kam Tin.
